Registration Numbers Up in Grand Bahama

VOTER REGISTRATION UPDATE - Voter registration in Grand Bahama has increased tremendously, and those who have not already done so, are urged to go to the nearest centre and do so, said Cecil Thompson, consultant, Parliamentary Registration Department, during a press conference on Wednesday. FREEPORT, The Bahamas - Voter registration numbers have increased since nine registration centres have been open in Central and West Grand Bahama, said Cecil Thompson, consultant with the Parliamentary Registration Department during a press conference on Wednesday morning.
      
When the locations were opened in early January of this year, they were done so in or near schools so as to make it easier for parents dropping their children off or picking them up to register.  For the first day, they only registered 90 voters, and after a brief break and restarting their drive, for the week of January 23 to 27, 2017, the number of voters registered in Central and West Grand Bahama totalled 768.
       
Also present during the press conference were: Preston Cunningham, Island Administrator; Alexander Williams, Senior Advisor/Consultant; Brenda Colebrooke, Administrator for West Grand Bahama and Bimini; and Harvey Roberts, Administrator for East Grand Bahama.
      
From February 13 to 18, said Mr. Thompson, the total number of voters registered was 1,292 and on February 20, 382 people voted.
        
Those Bahamians who will vote, he said, should take their 2017 voter's card or their passport. When registering now, people can leave with their current voter's card.  Individuals who registered early may be able to collect their cards on March 6.
        
The Administrators all urged residents to register to vote so that they may exercise to their constitutional right to do so.
      
Those who still have not done so and wish to register, the locations and times are as follows:
      

·      Christ the King, Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm.

·      Sawyers Fresh Market, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturday, 9am to 6pm.

·      Solomon's Sea Horse Plaza, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturday, 9am to 6pm.

·      Solomon's Queen's Highway, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturday, 9am to 6pm.

·      Jack Hayward Senior High School, Monday to Friday, 5:30pm to 9pm.

·      St. Georges High School, Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm.

·      Cost Right, Thursday and Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturday, 9am to 6pm.

·      Port Lucaya Market Place, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

·      Hawksbill Community Development Centre, Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm.

·      St. Stephen's Parish Hall, Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm.

·      St. Mary Magdalene Parish Hall, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
