SOL Petroleum Donates $50,000 to Junior Junkanoo

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- The Hon. Dr. Daniel Johnson (second left), Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture accepted a $50,000 cheque for Junior Junkanoo from Keith Glinton (second right) General Manager, SOL Petroleum Bahamas Limited, during a press conference Wednesday, June 1 at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. 

SOL Petroleum, formerly ESSO, has sponsored Junior Junkanoo from its inception 28 years ago.  Also pictured are Jamal Clarke craft artist (left) and Ellery Deveaux, cultural officer/junior junkanoo coordinator. The funds are to be used in various ways including to purchase prizes for the Ministry's First Annual Logo Competition, which was won by Grand Bahama in 2015.

Winners of last year's parade included Preston Albury High School, Tarpum Bay Primary School, and One-on-One Pre-School. Over 30 schools from throughout the country participated in this largest of parades.  (BIS Photo/Kristaan Ingraham)
