Bahamas – In its efforts to continue the New Providence Infrastructure
Improvement Project, The Government of The Bahamas signed three contracts
Thursday that will enhance the Montagu and Saunders Beach areas.
The
improvements include the addition of a waterfall, benches and tables to Montagu
Beach, landscape enhancements, state-of-the-art restrooms, sidewalks and
wheel-chair accessible ramp at Saunders Beach.
Public
Works and Transport Minister the Hon. Neko C. Grant along with Colin Higgs,
permanent secretary and John Canton, director, signed the contracts with Alvin
Greenslade of Carib Construction Project Management Co. Ltd for $230,650,
Marcelle Major of Four Seasons Landscaping Co. Ltd for $179,451.30 and Arnold
Simms of Klean Kut Landscaping and Maintenance Co. Ltd for
$62,629.67.

Minister
Grant said “In addition to creating positive visual impact, the landscaping and
other amenities at these popular public beach sites will contribute to our
efforts in creating a safer and more comfortable environment for persons who
visit these sites. We, therefore, look forward to the successful execution of these
projects that will result in the creation of public spaces in which all
Bahamians could take pride.”
He
acknowledged and thanked the technical staff of the Ministry of Public Works
and Transport for their efforts in advancing the projects.

The
restrooms are expected to be constructed in five months and landscaping is
expected to be completed in six to eight weeks.
The
redevelopment of Saunders Beach began in 2010 and included replacing casuarina
trees with sea grape trees, installing park benches of recycled wood,
installing basic landscaping, realigning a portion of West Bay Street and
creating a public parking area.
