NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Ministry of Social Services through its Urban Renewal division expressed love to some 250 senior citizens with a post Valentine’s Day treat to Galleria Cinemas, Friday, February 16.

The seniors, who represented some 10 Urban Renewal Centres, basked in the moment as they embraced the sights of the Mall at Marathon and sounds of the Urban Renewal Band, which provided entertainment prior to the start of the movie.  Arthur Johnson, an inspector with Urban Renewal, serenaded the elderly as they queued.

Parliamentary Secretary, Vaughn Miller described the traditional Valentine’s Day event as a “wonderful” thing.

“We need to continue to treat our ‘precious pearls’ in a loving and honourable way and this is just one of those things that we do,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.

He noted that senior citizens are an “integral” part of Urban Renewal and regular activities are offered for seniors at the various centres.

On hand to greet the elderly men and women were Sherrilee Smith, Permanent Secretary; Patricia Francis, Deputy Permanent Secretary; and Elaine Williams, Director.

The seniors also received Valentine’s Day candy treats compliments of the Urban Renewal Commission.
