NASSAU, The Bahamas – A significant number of entrepreneurial and job opportunities are expected to become available for local residents of Harbour Island as a result of Wednesday’s signing of the Heads of Agreement for the $45 million Harbour Island Resort and Marina Development.

These include entrepreneurial opportunities for Bahamian entertainers, musicians, artists and artisans in the Marina Village and additional entrepreneurial opportunities through Tender Bids that will be offered to Bahamian contractors.

The signing of the Heads of Agreement took place in the Cabinet Office, Churchill Building, between the Government of The Bahamas and 4M Harbour Island Limited for the redevelopment of the Harbour Island Marina into a world-class tourism facility.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Ms. Camille Johnson, signed on behalf of the Government of The Bahamas while Mr. Michael Wiener, Principal, 4M Harbour Island Limited, signed for the Developers.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert A. Minnis said the project, and in particular, the marina component, has received the approval of the relevant government agencies inclusive of the Ministry of Transport and Local Government and the Ministry of the Environment.

Prime Minister Minnis noted that Mr. Wiener has a “proven track record” in Real Estate Development, having developed projects in Hawaii, California and Texas, United States of America.

The Prime Minister said Mr. Wiener has committed to a 70 per cent Bahamian workforce on the project for both construction work and business operations.

“It is expected that 150 persons will be employed in construction positions, and 72 permanent positions will be made available for business operations. The employment will be enhanced by on-the-job employee training.

“Entrepreneurial opportunities for local residents of Harbour Island are expected to flourish through Tender Bids which will be offered to Bahamian contractors. Mr. Wiener will, over the course of the development, work closely with Local Government and the resident Government offices to ensure maximization of Bahamian employment and training.

“From a cultural perspective, entrepreneurial opportunities in the Marina Village will be made to Bahamian entertainers, musicians, artists and artisans,” Prime Minister Minnis added.

Prime Minister Minnis said Mr. Wiener’s vision for the transformation and revitalization of the “vintage marina property,” will bring a unique appeal to the southwest coast of Harbour Island.

The Marina property, will be redesigned into a world-class, state-of-the-art, luxury mega yacht-based resort community with a wide array of amenities consisting of a marina, clubhouse, restaurants, a retail and a resort residential community to include single and two-storey Town Homes with a total of 28 Guest Rooms, 10 Villas and a swimming pool.

The 55-slip Marina and Resort, will be “distinctively different” with a “Loyalist design style” reflecting the historic roots of the settlement of Dunmore Town that will enhance the product offering on Harbour Island.

“I am pleased to say that the residents of Harbour Island have voiced their overwhelming support for the 4M project at a Public Consultation Meeting held in Harbour Island on November 16, 2017,” Prime Minister Minnis said.

“The residents are enthusiastically receptive to the development and eagerly await the potential economic benefits,” Prime Minister Minnis added.
