Nassau, The Bahamas – Technical experts from the Information Technology and Communication Unit of the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, took another major step forward in the roll-out of the ProMIS (Processing Management Information System) Thursday (July 2, 2020), staging a one-day training session for Senior Managers and Centre Managers within the Department of Social Services.
The session was attended by Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, Ms. Phedra Rahming; Under Secretary, Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, Mrs. Roselyn Horton; Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, Mrs. Ethrice Cooper; Acting Director, Department of Social Services Ms. Lilian Quant-Forbes, and Deputy Director with oversight of the Information Technology and Communication Unit, Ms. Judy L. Simmons.
Minister Campbell told participants that the implementation of ProMIS will change the way the humanitarian arm of the Government (the Department of Social Services in particular) responds to its people.
“What we are doing is revolutionary. What we are doing will change the way the humanitarian arm of the Government responds to its people. I am pleased to be here in social services at this time,” Minister Campbell said. “ProMIS is going to make our jobs much easier. It is going to make everyone of us more accountable to our clients from Grand Bahama to Inagua.
“This isn’t Campbell’s ProMIS, this is Social Services’ ProMIS and commitment to the Bahamian people, that we are going to do our best to offer them quicker, more efficient, effective and more reliable service,” Minister Campbell added.
The Social Services Minister said ProMIS is a major part of the digital and other reform underway at the Ministry and its Departments and various Divisions – all aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of service to internal (staff members) and external clients.
“One of the challenges I threw out upon being appointed Minister of Social Services (Minister Campbell assumed the post on July 5, 2018) was for us to find ways to do things better, more quickly and smoother. ProMIS is going to help us to be able to track our clients from the womb to the tomb or the beginning to the end, and it will reduce frustration, both for the internal and external clients.
“We have the opportunity to do two things: first, to see if we can put in place the policies and protocols and procedures that will remove the stigma that is sometimes associated; and secondly to make it a smoother, more efficient programme for anyone who may find themselves needing it -- even us,” Minister Campbell added.
