St. Anne's School Cultural Day Extravaganza

Nassau, The Bahamas - Senior Cultural Affairs Officer in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Sonovia Pierre, Senator the Hon. Jamal Moss, Cultural Educator/Story Teller Arlene Nash-Ferguson, Ministry of Education representatives, clergy and cultural stakeholders joined faculty, staff and students at the St. Anne's School, on January 9, 2020, for its Bahamian Cultural Day.  The event, held under the theme "It's a Bahamian Thing ... Show Ya National Pride," provided an opportunity for students to experience various aspects of Bahamian culture, as well as showcase their own talents.  Among the performances included drills and participation by the St. Anne's School Rangers and the Girl Guides; musical performances by Dyson Knight, Patrice Murrell and DJ Curtis; a fire dance and drumming by Princess "Abdiel" Pratt and Ubuntu; performances by the Bahamas Department of Corrections and the Royal Bahamas Police Force Bands; students sharing poetry, singing and dancing by the school's "Expressions"; Bahamian food and a cultural re-enactment on video by Ms. Shelly.  The students also had a chance to win prizes with Bahamian culture trivia.  "Showtime" and "Bahama Mama" served as MCs, while Principal Curt Hollingsworth brought remarks and Chairperson for the school's Bahamian Cultural Committee Kervinique Ferguson brought the Vote of Thanks.  (BIS Photos / Eric Rose)
