FREEPORT, Grand Bahama –Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, was on hand on Friday, May 27, to welcome some 189 visitors on the Sunwing inaugural flight to Grand Bahama from Houston, Texas.

Accompanied by Senator Tanesha Tynes, and officials of the Ministry of Tourism, the Minister greeted the guests as they disembarked from Sunwing.

Minister Darville thanked Minister of Tourism the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe and the staff of the Ministry of Tourism in Grand Bahama for the summer programme which is expected to bring flights to the island from eight US cities. With this being the first flight scheduled for this year, Minister Darville said that he was pleased that the flight was full, and for the airlift programme by Vacation Express.

According to Carmel Churchill, Director of Marketing at the Grand Bahama Tourism Board, Texas is a state with a growing market for the Islands of The Bahamas, and Grand Bahama in particular. It is hoped, she said, that the success of this will continue into 2017.
