THIS IS A TEST

ALERT #6 ON HURRICANE ALEXANDER ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FRIDAY 8TH JUNE, 2016 AT 3 PM EDT.

POWERFUL HURRICANE ALEXANDER NOW MOVING IN THE GULF OF MEXICO AFTER HITTING THE FLORIDA CAYS HARD.

ALL WATCHES AND WARNINGS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED FOR THE BAHAMAS.

AT 2 PM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE ALEXANDER WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 24.0 DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 84.0 DEGREES WEST OR ABOUT 390 MILES WEST OF SOUTH ANDROS AND 412 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF NEW PROVIDENCE. 

ALEXANDER IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 20 MPH, AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 120 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  ALEXANDER IS NOW A DANGEROUS CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE WIND SCALE.  SOME SLIGHT STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, AND ALEXANDER IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN AT CATEGORY 3 OR STRONGER THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 100 MILES FROM THE CENTER AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 200 MILES FROM THE CENTER.

LIFE THREATING ROUGH SURF AND RIP CURRENT CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE IN THE BAHAMAS THROUGH SATURDAY.

THIS WILL BE THE FINAL ALERT ISSUED ON HURRICANE ALEXANDER. FURTHER INFORMATION ON ALEXANDER WILL BE GIVEN VIA NEW ITEMS.
