Nassau, Bahamas - Members from the Government’s e-Procurement & Suppliers Registry Team were on hand to educate as well as sign up contractors for the Registry during the Bahamas Contractors’ Association’s monthly meeting at the Poop Deck on the Beach & Sandyport, Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

The whole idea of the Registry system is to make the process of government procurement transparent and to ensure that there is fairness across the system, so that everyone has an opportunity.

Sumayyah Cargill, Communications Specialist, Project Implementation Unit, the Public Financial Management and Performance Monitoring Reform Project, Ministry of Finance explained that the Registry is tangible evidence that the Government is moving towards a modern procurement framework.

She said with the passage of the Public Procurement Act, tenders will be going digital and all procurement opportunities will be posted with full transparency.  “If one person sends a message to the buyer through the system, everyone receives a copy of the answer.”

Ms. Cargill encouraged as many contractors to register this month and early next month as there will hopefully be a test bid in January, but only those who have signed up will be able to participate.
