NASSAU, The Bahamas – A first-class passenger lounge has been officially opened at the Lynden Pindling International Airport at the Domestic/International Terminal, available to Family Island travelers. A ceremony was held at the lounge on October 1.
Officially opening the lounge was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation Lorraine Armbrister, who spoke on behalf of the Minister, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, who was attending an emergency cabinet meeting concerning Hurricane Joaquin.
Expressing her pride in the new addition to the airport, Mrs. Armbrister said that the lounge would provide a 'first-class' experience for travelers.
“This is the first time that this airport will have a lounge that our Family Island customers are able to access,” she said. “It is a testament to LPIA's commitment to provide consistent, high quality service to all its customer groups.”
She said that the club also solidifies the airport's status a regional and global leader in providing first class service. The lounge, she pointed out, is an 'enhancement' that marks another milestone along the journey of LPIA becoming a hub for the lower Caribbean. She said that other projects are also on stream.
“The aviation sector in The Bahamas has a great future,” said Mrs. Armbrister. “Discussions have begun for the development of an airport hotel.”
In addition, there are plans to modernize the aviation sector in the country with the future construction of new airports and the modernization of existing ones throughout the country.
President and CEO of the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) Vernice Walkine, also delivered remarks. She said that the existence of a premium passenger lounge is one of the hallmarks of a world-class airport.

The Lignum Club was developed by, and will be operated by, NAD. Ms. Walkine said that all efforts were taken to ensure that the lounge offers comfort and superior services anticipated by travellers.
“We have created a space designed to reflect the unique culture of The Bahamas,” said Ms. Walkine. “The vibrant colors, textures and flavours of our country permeate the Lignum Club, giving it a unique Bahamian sense of place.”
The club is open to all passengers traveling through Terminal A (Domestic and International wing), including domestic travelers. A partnership has also been formed with Priority Club, and the club is a member of 700 premium airport lounges within the Priority Club network. With 10 million members around the world, Ms. Walkine said the Priority Pass is recognized as the world's largest independent airport lounge access program.

President and CEO of Vantage Airport Group George Casey said he was delighted to be present for the opening of the new lounge and said that the lounge epitomizes the company's desire to offer first-class service.
Located in the LPIA's Domestic and International Terminal, the new lounge offers travelers another option to relax and enjoy their transit en route to their destinations. It is an addition to the variety of dining, shopping and relaxation amenities available at the airport. The Club will be operated by NAD and will feature food and beverage options, a business centre, computer workstations, a full-service bar, cable television, private meeting space and concierge services.
