The Free National Movement has won 23 seats in the 41-seat House of Assembly, according to the official results of the Wednesday, May 2, 2007 General Election, released by the Parliamentary Registration Department.

The Progressive Liberal Party, which held power from 2002 to 2007, captured 18 seats.

There were no winners among the Independents or candidates for the Bahamas Democratic Movement.

Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Hubert Ingraham, leader of the FNM, became the first person in Bahamian history to have returned to head a government after retirement. He served as prime minister from 1992 to 2002.

Former Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Perry Christie, who now becomes the Leader of the Official Opposition, also made history by becoming a one-term prime minister. He failed to lead the PLP to a second consecutive term as the Government of The Bahamas.
