FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Work is progressing well on Grand Bahama’s new $6.2 million Fire Station.

Work on the facility began shortly after the Government of The Bahamas entered into a contract with Patrick McDonald Construction Company on July 28, 2015.

The new station is being constructed on three acres of land on Settlers Way, near Sergeant Major Drive and Fairfield East. Contractor Patrick McDonald expects to have the project completed before the end of 2016 coming in well ahead of the scheduled completion date.

Grand Bahama lost its Fire Station following the passage of Hurricanes Jeanne and Frances some ten years ago.

Officials at the Royal Bahamas Police Fire Department are said to be elated with the progress being made in the construction of the new facility which is being built on three acres of land.

The new facility will include a two-storey 16,600-square-foot administrative building, inclusive of a reception area and public restrooms, a training room, locker room, exercise room, dining room and kitchen, a dormitory for both male and female police fire fighters, bathrooms, showers, a common laundry room, and a first aid room among other features.

The new station will also include a single storey complex that will house four fire trucks inclusive of storage space for tools and other fire fighting equipment.

A number of other recreational facilities are being constructed on site, making the new station one of the finest and most modern in the region.
