You are what you Eat
By Brian G. Blower, DC

I was walking towards the meat
counter in one of our local food stores the other day and a woman that
I didn’t recognize stopped me and asked if I approved of the steak
she was holding and was wishing to buy.
I looked at it and thought
“nice” and said the same to her, whereupon she promptly smiled and
put it into her cart. She then said “So you approve of red meat
Dr. Blower?” To which I replied “Not if it is ground.”
“Why should that make a difference?”
she inquired. And I told her of the unfortunate problems that
happen upon us when we are not vigilant with our diets.
Ground processed foods, like
hamburger, have given up much of their potential biological nourishing
properties due to oxidation. That as well as the end results from
impregnation of any number of nasty vicious pathogens inherent to the
grinding blades and surfaces as they plunge over and over again through
the soupy matrix of meat scraps and trim, making it most unsavory.
For
the next several days inside that wet glop of fat and bruised proteins
the bacteria have a field day multiplying. And as the bacteria do so
the oxygen contacting the fats turn them rancid and the proteins turn
putrid.
Making your dinner from these discarded
and inferior animal parts (hamburger), then altering them further in such foolish
manners, like grinding and extruding, puts incredible stress upon our
organs which must strive to systematically detoxify and neutralize such
soiled materials.
Adding to the nutritional disturbances
our mouths then don’t get 'to chew' thoroughly and release enzyme rich
saliva into the bolus that we prematurely tend to swallow, which allows
the beast to blow up like a bomb in our stomachs. The stomach passes it
on in the same speedy manner for as far as it is concerned the meat
reaching
it is ABC “already been chewed.” Less enzymes and less digestive
juices then allow increased amounts of putrefaction and rancidification
along its course to
in our large bowel.
So I then simply said to her “Why
would you select the lowest grade of meat by choosing it ground? Isn't it like scraping the carcass of the beast should we be
existing in the wild? Why not take the tenderloin or the rump
home? Then wouldn’t you be getting the best meal along with your family?”
She thanked me and said she
missed reading my commentaries and would I please return to writing
them as they were food for good thought. And I thought tenderloin?
Now don’t get me wrong out
there, most of us haven’t the money to buy top of the line meats on
a regular basis. We are all trying to “just make it.” And
believe me I’m responsible for six people in my own life. I still suggest that
you buy only the highest quality foods and if your budget doesn’t
permit more, then for the time being, buy less but only top quality.
Most of us far exceed our needs in calories every day anyway, so give up
the sodas and chips and fast foods right now and find your savings a better venue.
Also it is apparent that most of us don’t have much
more than the slightest idea of just how and why our bodies do what they
do and that’s OK too, but only for now.
I called this commentary
“Stress and our Health” so how does the hamburger meat cause us
stress?
Stress means to be drawn up
tight and that is exactly what the large intestine does when insulted.
Strictus is the root word of stress as in “restrict” and “constrict.”
Draw the bowel up tight and then ask it to run a nice balanced extraction,
detoxification and conversion program, and it finds it impossible to do
the work.
Our intestines are usually
a bit under thirty feet in length and only the final five feet holds
the waste products of digestion, the area is called the large intestine.
Readying themselves for elimination and while drying out the putrid
and rancid along with the toxic and corrosive materials lie in intimacy
upon our lower organ walls. But please get this part straight,
within that final five feet of our hollow intestines also lies the presence
of about 80% of our immune cells.
That hamburger that your intelligent mouth, stomach and internal organs
let pass undigested is now lying upon your large bowel wall in a putrid
and rancid state and until eliminated causes the immune cells to wage
war upon it. The reactive chemicals from our own immune cells
then cause further havoc to tissues throughout the body. Our blood components contaminated from the
bowel reaction also causes us to lose our capacity to think right.
Mothers of students beware of this happening. No ground meats
of any kind for your children, ever.
Stress guys... think about it.
Only hollow organs and structures can become “drawn up tight.”
In our bodies we have three such systems.
The system most commonly recognized
when stressed is the heart and the vessels of our circulation and we
all know what that may lead to. Another hollow system that stresses
is the organ and intestine system. This one is most easily stressed
by what goes into the mouth. And finally the third hollow system
to stress is the spine, the lifeline of the body.
Recent studies have shown that
about 85% of all back pains are mechanical in nature. The CAT
Scans and MRI studies as well as x-ray and physical exams are showing
mechanical binding and spinal segmental subluxations (malpositioning)
as being the emitter of the pain we so frequently get drugged for.
But come on lets think about
it, every back has a front and if we stress one of our systems how can
we not be stressing the others?
Most of my acute low back patients
exhibit a concomitant compromised bowel and arteriole-venule system along
with the spasms and the stressed up tight lower spine.
And sure wherever possible
I manipulate the spinal segments of my patients back to their former better
positions. That helps with a lot of the back pain and strengthens
the muscles surrounding the body.
But again and again I find
that many are attempting to “make gold from straw.” To be
and stay an “apex predator” you must always eat at the “apex of
the food chain.” Otherwise you will be subjected to premature
stress and it may not be the spine that first gives up.
Eat optimally for your health. Hamburger is not optimal.
