Caribbean Tourism Organization Hosts Former U.S. Congressman during Caribbean Week New York

NEW YORK, NY - The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) hosted former U.S. Congressman, Charles Rangel, at a cocktail reception held at the Wyndham New Yorker June 6, 2017 during Caribbean Week New York.  During the reception, the CARICOM Caucus of Ambassadors presented Mr. Rangel with an award of appreciation for his longstanding work in advancing U.S.-Caribbean relations during his 46 years in Congress.

A lifetime resident of Harlem, Charles Rangel said, "I am proud to have served for humane causes and to have serviced my district." He continued, "There has not been one day where I've had one regret about choosing to work in public service." He was accompanied by his wife, Alma Rangel.

The event, which was sponsored by CTO, TripAdvisor and Arrivalist, was attended by Ministers, Commissioners, Directors of Tourism and Caribbean Ambassadors to the United States.

Distinguished guests and speakers praised the former congressman for his political legacy in New York and internationally, including his impact in advancing trade deals with Caribbean nations. Tourism leaders spoke about Mr. Rangel's humility and commitment to champion for people of all cultures, races and religions. Dignified speakers of the evening included Hugh Riley, Secretary General, CTO; Ambassador Paul Altidor, Ambassador of the Republic of Haiti to the United States;Carol Johnson, TripAdvisor's Destination Marketing Manager for the Caribbean; Barbara Atherly, Consul General of Guyana; and Sally Yearwood, Executive Director of Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA).
