Caribbean Week New York adds new events for 2017; Travel Agent Forum Returns to Schedule

NEW YORK, NY - New for Caribbean Week New York (#CWNY17) ... JUST. ADD. RUM.

New for Caribbean Week New York, the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has added a RUM Rumble during Caribbean Media Marketplace (Thursday, June 8) where more than 125 journalists, as well as tourism officials and industry executives, will witness the best-of-the-best Caribbean rum-mixing masters compete for the title of Caribbean Week Mixologist of the Year. The Caribbean Week Mixologist of the Year will be announced at the RUM & Rhythm Benefit where the Rum Rumble finalists will debut their winning cocktails on Friday, June 9.

Returning by popular demand is the Trade Show and Educational FoRUM for Travel Agents following a brief hiatus last year. Themed "Selling the Romantic Caribbean," more than 150 qualified travel agents from databases of the top-producing tour operators for Caribbean travel have registered for the event, exceeding the initial target of 120. The highly anticipated event will give suppliers and destination representatives the opportunity to highlight what is special about their product and share relevant information, tips and trends with travel agents who work with leading tour operators. Ministers and Directors of Tourism will once again have the opportunity to take advantage of the annual Media Marketplace where more than 125 travel writers and qualified journalists will discover new products and initiatives while interacting with various Caribbean partner representatives who will assist in communicating the allure and value of Caribbean vacations with a view to dRUMming up business for the upcoming winter season. In addition, the new television interview room established last year for interviews with Ministers and Directors of Tourism will be repeated with additional TV outlets from North America and the Caribbean.

Caribbean Week New York is the largest regional tourism activity in the New York area. Artists, performers, celebrity chefs, investors and other strategic partners join government officials and the media as all converge on New York for a week that showcases the diversity and vibrancy of the region.

Ministers of Tourism, Directors of Tourism, National Tourist Office representatives and other key tourism and hospitality officials from the around the Caribbean, will come together for meetings, seminars and celebrations.

Caribbean Week is highlighted with a cultural celebration at the Rum & Rhythm Benefit and Auction - the Ultimate Caribbean Epicurean Experience - on Friday, June 9, which will return to the prestigious Capitale in New York City. This event is open to the public.

Celebrity Chefs Program

    The Caribbean is known for its incredible smorgasbord of culinary offerings influenced by its European, African, Indian and indigenous heritage. During Caribbean Week, the Caribbean Celebrity Chefs will demonstrate mastery in preparing authentic Caribbean dishes at a variety of upscale and highly visible locations, such as Bloomingdales and Williams Sonoma, that support Caribbean Week and whose customers match the profile of potential Caribbean vacationers.

Church Service - Sunday, June 4, 2017 / 10 a.m. - noon

    Members of the Diaspora, the Caribbean Diplomatic Corps and Caribbean tourism industry personnel are invited to join the CTO to observe the 44th Caribbean Week New York, give thanks for the Caribbean, and pray for continued growth and success of the industry. This event is open to the public.

Caribbean Diaspora Forum - Monday, June 5, 2017 / 6 - 9 p.m.

    In this Forum, as CTO continues to strengthen the relationship between the Diaspora and the Region, visiting Caribbean tourism officials, policymakers and Diaspora leaders and influencers will celebrate Caribbean American's contribution to the United States during Caribbean American Heritage month as well as discuss opportunities for economic development through the efforts of the Diaspora at Optimizing the Benefits of Cultural and Heritage Tourism.

Workshop for NTOs - Tuesday, June 6, 2017 / 9 a.m. - noon

    Workshops for National Tourist Office (NTO) representatives offer participants an opportunity to increase their knowledge and networking by collaborating with other segments of the industry to increase travel to the Caribbean. The theme of this workshop is "To The Collaborators Go The Spoils."

Caribbean Students Colloquium -- Wednesday, June 7, 2017 / 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

    "Students Taking Center Stage: A Forum for Rising Stars in Caribbean Tourism" - Tourism Education is a critical element of tourism sustainability and one of the ways in which the CTO lives up to its sustainable goals is by having youth involved in all of its activities. The Students Colloquium brings together teams from several colleges to present a sustainable project that provides a positive experience for residents, tourism companies and visitors.

Caribbean Tourism Marketing Conference - Thursday, June 8, 2017 / 8 a.m. - noon

    Themed Marketing Caribbean Tourism in the New "Ab"Normal, the event will feature a keynote address from Scott Wiseman, President of Travel Impressions. A panel discussion will follow Wiseman's keynote presentation and Q&A session. Panelists include airline industry consultant Thomas Bacon of Tom Bacon Consulting, LLC.; Michael Kraabel, VP, Creative + User Experience, Bolin Marketing; SK+G's Chief Innovation Officer Claud Monro and Chief Creative Officer Marc Lindevelt. The Caribbean Marketing Conference remains one of the highlights of Caribbean Week and presents the latest cutting-edge marketing trends to an audience of public and private sector tourism representatives.

Caribbean Tourism Industry Awards Luncheon - Thursday, June 8, 2017 / noon - 2 p.m.

    "Honoring Industry Leaders and Top Caribbean Stories" - Caribbean Week takes on special meaning when awards are presented in the major media and Caribbean tourism market, in the presence of peers and top Caribbean tourism officials and executives, in show of appreciation for their contribution to the development of the tourism product.
