The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba) held its Fourth Biennial General Meeting at the Auberge Seraphine Hotel on Sunday 23rd April, where the main order of business was election of a new executive.

The new President is long-time member Marlene Alexander, who replaces former president Rawle Harvey and is assisted by six other fellow members of the new leadership.

During the Open Session, much praise was given to outgoing President Rawle Harvey, a founder member of the 12-year-old organization who served as President from its inception. Other retiring officers included former first Vice President Irvin John and the Public Relations Director Maurice Moffat.

Tributes came from Cuban Ambassador Jorge Soberon and Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Leiff Escolona. Solidarity messages came from former Cuban graduate Peter ‘Pel’ Lansiquot and veteran Caribbean Journalist Earl Bousquet who has had a long association with Cuba through the former Saint Lucia-Cuba Friendship Association (SLCFA).

The first order of business of the Association under the new leadership will be to reactivate and increase its membership.

The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba) has among its main objectives “to engender cordial and open relations between the people of Saint Lucia and Cuba”; to disseminate factual information about Cuba; and to explore the development of cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Meanwhile, following is a complete list of the members of the new executive elected last Sunday:

President -- Mrs. Marlene Alexander (former Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister)

1st Vice President -- Peter “Pel” Lansiquot (Caribbean Economist, Diplomat and a former Acting Head of Mission of the Saint Lucia Ebassy in Cuba)

2nd Vice President -- Mr. Raphael Kingsley St. Hill (Veteran Trade Unionist and Consumer Protection Advocate)

Secretary -- Mr. Nicholas Jean Baptiste (Attorney-at-Law)

Treasurer -- Ms. Liza Fontenelle (Civil Service Officer)

Public Relations Director -- Mr. Selva Wilson (Physical Education Specialist)
