Haiti’s Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe resigned over the weekend as the country continues to seek solutions to the current political stalemate.

His resignation came less than a week after President Michel Martelly received a report from an 11-member presidential commission appointed to tackle issues stalling overdue elections.. President Martelly has also been having talks with social and political groups about the elections to renew two-thirds of the 30 member Senate, the entire Lower Chamber and hundreds of local government bodies.

Prime Minister Lamonthe in a radio and TV broadcast on Saturday night said “I am leaving the post of Prime Minister … with a feeling of accomplishment.”
