Six teams from the UK, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago and Saint Lucia to participate

Saint Lucia – The 10th International Seniors Cricket Festival, organized by Gullivers Sports Travel out of the United Kingdom in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, will be hosted in Saint Lucia from March 24 to April 1, 2014.

The Festival, which was successfully held here in 2008, is for players 50 years and over, but three players whose ages range from 45 to 49 can be accommodated in each team, but only two can play at the same time. All matches will be limited to 35-overs-per-side and are scheduled to begin at 10.00 a.m. each day.

The Festival will involve six teams – two (Warwickshire and Worcestershire) from the United Kingdom, two from Trinidad & Tobago, one from Canada, and the other from the host country, Saint Lucia. There will be five match-days with three matches being played simultaneously on the first four match-days at the Gros Islet Playing Field, the Beausejour Cricket Ground and the Dennery Cricket Ground. The final match (the Festival Big Match) will feature the best of the English and Canada teams against the best of the Trinidad & Tobago and Saint Lucia teams at the Beausejour Cricket Ground on Tuesday, April 1st. Following the completion of the Festival Big Match, there will be a short awards ceremony to be followed by diner in the midst of good Caribbean music.

Some of the awards to be presented will include trophies for Player-of-the-Match for each match, Batsman with the Most Runs, Bowler with the Most Wickets, and Wicket-Keeper with the Most Dismissals. Awards will also be presented to the best performed English team and the captain of the winning team in the final match. A special award (The Norman Davies Trophy) will be presented to someone for their outstanding contribution either on or off the field of play. This will be in memory of the late Norman Davies, who was very influential in organizing the very first International Seniors Cricket Festival in Barbados in 1995.

Gemma Lott and Peter Hodcroft, senior staff members at Gullivers, the leading sports tour operator in the United Kingdom, will be in Saint Lucia to assist local tour co-ordinator, Roland Cox, in ensuring that things run smoothly as planned.

At the conclusion of the 2008 Festival here, the award for the Best Non-English Team went to Saint Lucia which played unbeaten under the leadership of Keith Charlery. Deldridge Flavius captured the award for the Batsman with the Most Runs which included an unbeaten century, while Barbarians, which was supplemented with local players and captained by Roland Cox, captured the award for the Best Performed English Team. Keith Charlery was also presented with Player-of-the-Team award for his good performance during the final match.

The visiting teams, with a number of supporters, arrive on Saturday, March 22 and depart on Thursday, April 3rd. They will be accommodated at Coco Palm Hotel and Bay Gardens Hotel in the Rodney Bay area.

Meanwhile, a number of social engagements including trips to various parts of the island have been planned for the visitors during the stay here in Saint Lucia.
