On Wednesday, the 25th of February Christopher Huskilson,President and CEO, Emera Inc., will address the business community at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce monthly lunch meeting at the Sunrise Resort & Marina.

“We are very pleased to have Mr. Huskilson as our guest this month,” noted Greg Moss, GB Chamber President. “He and his company have joined one of Grand Bahama’s most important industries and we are very interested in his company’s plans here and in the rest of The Bahamas.”

Mr. Huskilson will speak to Chamber members about Emera’s experience in the energy industry and their investment in Grand Bahama Power Company. He will also specifically address renewable and alternative energy possibilities for the Island.

”Grand Bahama Power Company has already benefited from Emera’s joining the shareholder group .” said E.O. Ferrell, Grand Bahama Power Company’s CEO and President. “They bring great experience in the generation and distribution of electricity. We are working with them to take advantage of their experience with alternative energy and we are working jointly to determine the potential for wind generation on Grand Bahama Island. We look forward to working with them on other projects in the future, all to the benefit our Grand Bahama Island customers.”

In October 2008 Emera acquired 50% of the shares of ICDU, giving them a 25% interest in the island’s only power company. Individual shareholders on the Bahamas Stock Exchange own the remaining ICDU shares with the balance owned by Marubeni Caribbean Power Holdings, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation of Japan, who completed the purchase of equity shares of Mirant Caribbean Holdings, giving them 55% equity interest in Grand Bahama Power Company.

Emera Inc. is an Energy and Services Company. The company has two wholly owned regulated electric utility subsidiaries, Nova Scotia Power Inc. and Bangor Hydro-Electric Company, which together serve 590,000 customers. Emera also owns 19% of St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited, which serves more than 50,000 customers in St. Lucia The Grand Bahama Power Company is their latest acquisition, which serves over 45,000 Grand Bahama residents. In addition to its electric utility investments, Emera owns the Brunswick Pipeline, a 145-km gas pipeline; has a joint venture interest in Bear Swamp, a 600-megawatt pumped storage hydro-electric facility; a 12.9% interest in the Maritmes and Northeast Pipeline; a 7.4% interest in Open Hydro, and Emera Energy Services.

Mr. Huskilson is the president and chief executive officer of Emera Inc. and has held this position since November 2004. He is also a director of Nova Scotia Power Inc., chairman of Bangor Hydro-Electric Company and Chairman of ICDU. Mr. Huskilson has held a number of other positions within Nova Scotia Power Inc. and its predecessor, Nova Scotia Power Corporation, since joining the company in 1980.
