GB Chamber of Commerce announces candidates for upcoming Election

Freeport, Bahamas - The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce has announced the candidates in the upcoming annual general meeting and election of officers and directors for the Association.  Election is slated for Wednesday, October 31 and vying for the president position are two well known business executives.  Terah Rahming, President Premier Fund Services Ltd. and Barry J. Malcom, President, Global Fulfillment Services Ltd. are both seeking to be elected as the president of The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce.

Terah Rahming, a certified public accountant, is the President and CEO of Premier and is also a director of Premier. Terah attended and is a graduate of Florida Memorial College and is a licensed member of the Colorado State Board of Accountancy, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants.

She has worked as a staff accountant in the audit department at PriceWater House, Nassau, Bahamas from 1989 to 1991. After serving as an account officer at the First Home Banking Centre for one year, Terah took up employment as a senior auditor at Earnst & Young. From 1995 to 2003, Terah served as manager of Fund services and compliance officer at Oceanic Bank and Trust Limited and then she became the President of Oceanic Fund Services Limited in 2003. She held this position until 2007 when she and other members of Oceanic Fund Services Management team formed Premier Fund Services Limited.

Barry J. Malcolm, President, Global Fulfillment Services

Managing Director and Country Head, Scotia Bank Bahamas Ltd., with responsibility for retail and small business banking, corporate and comercial banking, wealth management and private client services with 22 branches, four (4) units and seven hundred empolyess across seven (7) islands.

Executive Vice President of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited, with responsibility for Economic Development, Investment Promotion, and Business Licensing within the City of Freeport.

CEO & Executive Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board, establishing the first joint sector / government programs for formal development promotion of The Bahamas as a Financial Services Centre.

Executive Director of the Inter-American Development Bank, in Washington, D.C., with responsibility for development lending to The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and  Guyana.

Senator and Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (Bahamas), responsibility for Trade & Industry, and Grand Bahama matters.

Executive Vice-President of the Bahamas Oil Refining Company, with responsibility for Administration and Human Resources.

Barry holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida and Bachelor of Arts Degree in English/Journalism from St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota.
 
Also vying for executive posts on the Chamber’s board of directors are Taccara Wright an attorney with Graham Thompson & Co. and real estate professional, Donna Laing-Jones, a Broker with HG Christie for the position of secretary.  Christopher Baker of HLB Galanis & Co. and Tish Sherman of BORCO are both vying for the treasurer post.  Tony Lopez and Lisa Turnquest are both returning unopposed at this time for the positions of first and second vice president, respectively.  Six candidates will vye for the 2 vacant posts of directors.  They are Sarah Kirkby (vice president, Barefoot Marketing), Caline Newton, (accountant, Dupuch & Turnquest), Fiona Bellot-Daniels, (president, Shred Bahamas), Edris Wilson, (managing director, Cable Bahamas), Benjamin Davis, (general manager, The Grand Lucayan Resort) and Valarie Barry, (Polymers International Ltd.). Election is set for Wednesday, October 31 and nominations may be taken from the floor.
