On behalf of The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, its board of directors and members, I wish to extend sincere condolences on the passing of Sir Jack A. Hayward, OBE to his family, loved ones, the management and staff of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited and members of the numerous organizations that he supported and was personally involved with.

Sir Jack Hayward, was an integral part of The Bahamas, having moved here in the 1950’s after his father, Sir Charles Hayward, partnered with Wallace Groves, the pioneer and founder of Freeport.

Sir Jack, as he is fondly referred to, devoted his life to the growth and promotion of Freeport / Lucaya and indeed, The Bahamas, he was a nation builder in the truest sense. Ever mindful to the needs of the community he supported many social organizations, as he always did his part to create a better, stronger and more vibrant community.

Sir Jack’s outspokenness, quick wit and endless sense of humour will long be remembered, along with his deep love for this island and affection for its people.
