IT Investment Pays Dividends for Bahamas Supermarkets -

Nassau, The Bahamas (April 21, 2008)……Bahamas Supermarkets Limited announced today that less than one month after it completed a two-year, $4 million conversion in retail information technology systems and IT infrastructural upgrades, the investment is paying dividends that are expected to translate into curbing food price increases due to pilferage and leakage.
“All our stores in New Providence and Grand Bahama have been upgraded to the latest retail scanning devices and the company is experiencing a scanning success rate of 98% of items on the shelf,” said Stephen Boyle, Chief Operations Officer. “These sophisticated new systems, now directly linked to sales information, also bring greater shopper satisfaction because of the improved store shelf replenishing efficiencies. It is our hope that this improvement will translate into a cost savings for the company that will be passed on to the consumer...”

When Bernard Beneby first started working at City Market in the late 1960’s, the US was in the midst of the Vietnam War, the Green Bay Packers had just won Super Bowl II, The Beatles would soon release The White Album and man had not yet walked on the moon. On a recent afternoon Beneby, with more than 50 other Bahamas Supermarkets employees, was honored for a combined total of 1,285 years of service to the company.
The Annual City Market Employee Service Awards Luncheon, held at the Wyndham Resort in Nassau, featured stories of friendships and camaraderie spanning decades, two moving impromptu vocal solos by employees Mario Pugh and Christine Sands, heaping plates of sumptuous food, and generous gifts for the numerous honorees...
