NASSAU, Bahamas — Although Omega-3 fatty acids have been known as essential to normal growth and health since the 1930s, awareness of their health benefits has dramatically increased in the past few years. The heart-health benefits of the long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids — DHA and EPA Omega-3 — are the best known. These benefits were discovered in the 1970s by researchers studying the Greenland Eskimos. The Greenland Eskimos consumed large amounts of fat from seafood, but displayed virtually no cardiovascular disease. The high level of Omega-3 fatty acids consumed by the Eskimos reduced triglycerides, heart rate, blood pressure, and atherosclerosis.

City Market's New Smart Shopper Savings Stamp Program Successfully Launched - Aug 11, 2009 - 6:09:49 PM
Nassau, Bahamas -- Bahamas Supermarkets Limited, which operates 11 City Markets stores in New Providence and Grand Bahama, launched their new community fundraising initiative last month.  Tied to the company’s new Smart Shopper Savings Stamp Program, customers have a chance to give back to various charities linked to the program with the donation of their City Market Smart Shopper Savings Stamps.  In each of the City Market Stores, there is a Fundraising Stand that holds 12 sheets.  Each sheet is assigned to a non-profit organization, charity or group. One sheet holds 200 stamps and a filled sheet is worth $10.00.  At the end of each quarter, a cheque representing the total amount of sheets accumulated will be presented to the charities or organizations that are part of the program.  In the first week of the program, approximately $4,000 in stamps had been donated...

Nassau, Bahamas -- Bahamas Supermarkets Limited, which operates 11 City Market stores in New Providence and Grand Bahama continued its annual tradition of awarding scholarships to Bahamians interested in continuing their education.  Since 1968, Bahamas Supermarkets Limited has awarded more than 8 million dollars to 1,715 Bahamians through the Bahamas Supermarkets Foundation.  This year, in tough economic times, the Company allocated $60,000 towards scholarships for 12 students.

IT Investment Pays Dividends for Bahamas Supermarkets - Apr 23, 2008 - 5:06:05 PM

Nassau, The Bahamas (April 21, 2008)……Bahamas Supermarkets Limited announced today that less than one month after it completed a two-year, $4 million conversion in retail information technology systems and IT infrastructural upgrades, the investment is paying dividends that are expected to translate into curbing food price increases due to pilferage and leakage.  

 

“All our stores in New Providence and Grand Bahama have been upgraded to the latest retail scanning devices and the company is experiencing a scanning success rate of 98% of items on the shelf,” said Stephen Boyle, Chief Operations Officer. “These sophisticated new systems, now directly linked to sales information, also bring greater shopper satisfaction because of the improved store shelf replenishing efficiencies. It is our hope that this improvement will translate into a cost savings for the company that will be passed on to the consumer...”

When Bernard Beneby first started working at City Market in the late 1960’s, the US was in the midst of the Vietnam War, the Green Bay Packers had just won Super Bowl II, The Beatles would soon release The White Album and man had not yet walked on the moon. On a recent afternoon Beneby, with more than 50 other Bahamas Supermarkets employees, was honored for a combined total of 1,285 years of service to the company.

 

The Annual City Market Employee Service Awards Luncheon, held at the Wyndham Resort in Nassau, featured stories of friendships and camaraderie spanning decades, two moving impromptu vocal solos by employees Mario Pugh and Christine Sands, heaping plates of sumptuous food, and generous gifts for the numerous honorees...

Bahamas Supermarkets Announces Cruise Into Christmas Winners - Dec 18, 2007 - 9:43:26 AM

When Clifton Jones retired from the Royal Bahamas Police Force in July, he planned to celebrate by taking a cruise and thanks to City Market’s Cruise Into Christmas promotion he has the opportunity to do just that. Jones was one of four lucky City Market shoppers who nabbed the first set of 24 cruise packages for two worth $2,000 each. Other winners of the mega promotion by City Market and Asa H. Pritchard included Ronette Hanna, Stan and Patrice Ritchie and Diane Glinton of Grand Bahama. The four names were drawn from entry forms collected from 12 City Market locations in New Providence and Grand Bahama at the Harbour Bay store last Sunday during a live remote on Joy 101.9.
