A pledge to the future me…

You’ve been through a great deal. You’ve had days that seemed to be never ending. People have hurt you, cut you, and bruised you. They’ve taken your kindness and tried to turn it into your weakness. They’ve abused your heart, and taken advantage of your love. They’ve bitten your hand as you fed them, and cursed you as you extended love to them. I know.

I know what you’ve dealt with, and I’m really the one to blame. I’ve allowed them to say what they wanted, and to act how they felt. I allowed them to disqualify you from having a happy place, but not anymore. Today I take a stand for you, today I pledge never to let ‘them’ have a say in how your life goes. They won’t dictate to you the choices you make.  For so long we’ve tried to act “right” to be accepted, but I’ve learned that your actions can’t qualify you for God’s grace and they don’t have to accept you for Him to use you.

They’ve caused you to see things differently, but I pledge never to allow the things they’ve done, or the limitations they’ve put on you to cause you to become bitter; you’re bigger than that. You’ll see them, and you’ll be content. You’ll be content with the fact that only broken people can try and break someone else. You’ll understand that vengeance is and only belongs to the Lord and you’ll take pride in knowing that you dogged every stone they threw and every time they walked on your heart, you got stronger. You’ll appreciate the struggle for what it was, and you’ll find a story.

You’ll inspire people to live beyond what they’ve encountered and to shine in spite of. Your joy will be so indescribable and your love incalculable. They won’t understand how someone so broken, could be so blessed. You’ll show them that your joy isn’t based in external things but it’s rooted in Him. He’s strong like that, and He won’t let you go. So today, tomorrow and forever feel beautiful and know that with every battle you’ve fought you got stronger, wiser, and it prepared you for better.

I pledge to love me first, to build me up. I pledge to take the time to fix my heart because temporary patches rarely ever last. I pledge to look past the pain, look into the eyes of the persecutors and show them my purpose. I’ll stand tall; I won’t back down or run away.
