The Kamalamee Organization has officially released the names of the recipients of its 2015 Kamalamee Honours. As the organization’s flagship program, The Kamlamee Honours pays tribute to ordinary Bahamians who have significantly influenced the social, cultural, political, and economic landscape of The Bahamas, and the world over. Since the program’s introduction, The Bahamas joins many countries which pay tribute to the extraordinary achievements of its people through the performing arts, with heartfelt tributes from peers and admirers.
Earlier this year, the public was asked to nominate their everyday heroes and heroines. The primary standards in the selection process are excellence as well as the years of service and notoriety of a candidate. From more than fifty names, ten honourees were selected based on their achievements and value of their contributions.
The Kamalamee Honours Class of 2015 are: Pauline Davis-Thompson for athletics, Eva Schaffnerfor business, Antonius Roberts for design, Dave Mellor for ecology, Dr. Cecil Thompson for education, Ronnie Butler for entertainment, Leanora Pratt for healthcare, Elizabeth Dingman for humanitarianism, Terence Gape for political science and the Most Reverend Drexel Gomez for religion.
The
Kamalamee Honours Class of 2015 will begin their induction process with a
glamourous black tie photo shoot in Freeport, Grand Bahama at The Grand
Lucayan, followed by a portrait unveiling showcase, medallion ceremony, as well
as a black tie tribute concert and after party—all to be held in 2016.
This year, the Third Annual Portrait Ceremony will feature the unveiling of five portraits in Nassau and the unveiling of five portraits in Freeport. The Fourth Annual Kamalamee Honours will take place in June 2016 at The Grand Lucayan. The show will consist of surprise guest speakers and live tribute performances. As is the organization’s tradition, the complete list of guest performers will remain unpublicized until the show is in progress, adding to the element of surprise for both the honourees and the event’s patrons. Tickets to this first-class event will be available for $50.00.
