Nassau, Bahamas - The Eta Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. kicks off its Pledge to R.E.G. initiative. This campaign is aimed towards young Bahamians in an effort to encourage them to register to vote, encourage others to register to vote and gain knowledge to ensure they are educated voters. "The message is very simple; „You are not too young to pledge to register, you are not too young to get involved in the issues of our country.‟ This initiative promises to be a signature program of our chapter as it is vital to our nation's youth and democratic practices," shared Ms. Alana Ingraham, President of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter. The Pledge to R.E.G. campaign is very simple and accessible. Interested individuals will visit www.akaetapsiomega.com, click the Pledge To R.E.G button. On the Pledge to R.E.G. page, a commitment statement and form is available for individuals to submit. The Eta Psi Omega Chapter would then share a monthly e-blast with all registrants on national issues, election procedures, registration processes etc. On a registrant's 18th birthday, they are encouraged to go and get registered. As an incentive, they are asked to submit a photo holding their voter's card and they will receive a birthday present from the chapter. "We want to empower young people to vote, because their vote has power. During this campaign, we want to encourage young people to be as excited about their voter's card as they are about their driver's license," expressed Ms. D'Asante Beneby, Social Justice and Human Rights Chair of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter. This initiative is very important to our sorority‟s members because they have shared in the excitement and importance of being registered to vote. It is an experience we wish for young Bahamians to look forward to, to be prepared for and to embrace as they turn eighteen. "I was taken to be registered on my eighteenth birthday, as was the custom in our family. I was filled with such pride and excitement after receiving that card with my photo on it! I really felt like I had a say in the future of my country. Through our 'Pledge to Reg' campaign, Eta Psi Omega hopes to encourage this sense of pride and ownership of the process in this generation,” shared Mrs. Contanza Adderley-Bourne, 1st Vice President of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter. “My eighteenth birthday not only signaled a whole new era of being introduced to adult hood but I was privileged to have voting rights in my country. This R.E.G. Initiative will add more credibility to taking on the responsibility of adulthood. Eta Psi Omega chapter prescribes to the view of patriotism and citizenship. We understand the importance of getting involved in national affairs therefore we encourage everyone eighteen and over to exercise their democratic rights to vote and those under 18 to make the commitment and Pledge to R.E.G.!” stated Ms. Samantha Anderson, Connections Chair of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter.
