A Call for Nominations: The Lady Sassoon “Golden Heart Award”

Nassau, Bahamas - Each year The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation awards The Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award at the Annual Heart Ball, held annually in February. The award was first offered in 1968.

The Golden Heart Award was initiated by The Foundation to applaud and give recognition to individuals who have selflessly given of themselves to promote human welfare and dignity, thus making life better for their fellow men. The awardee is selected from a pool of worthy candidates, to be the winners of this award Previous winners of the award include: Mrs. Mary Profilo, Mrs. Frances Ledee, Mrs. Andrea Archer, Mrs. Orinthia Nesbeth , Mrs. Susan Roberts, Sir Durwood Knowles,  Rev. Prince Hepburn, Miss Mary Kelly, Dr. Marcia Bachem and many other worthy winners. 

The most recent Golden Heart Award winner was Mr. Lowell Mortimer. Mr. Mortimer is a lawyer by profession. He is known in the community for his work with the AIDS Foundation, Beaux Arts Ball, YWCA and particularly, The Bahamas Association for the Mentally Retarded. Additionally, Mr. Mortimer is a founding member of the local chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, better known as the Pi Xi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Today, Mr. Mortimer is Honorary Consul for the Republic of Turkey and a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fratenity. 

The Golden Heart Award will be presented at the 46th annual Heart Ball, scheduled to be held on February 13, 2010.  Nominations for this award must be accompanied by a letter / statement explaining why the person recommended should receive the award.

Alternatively, submissions can be hand delivered to Grosham Property, Cable Beach. This is the office site for The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation. 

The Deadline for nominations is January 15, 2010.
