Nassau, Bahamas - On November 16th 2016 one hundred and seven scholars from Akhepran International Academy joined millions of students all over the world by participating in the annual International Students Day Live Virtual College Fair.

This event was promoted by Education USA Bahamas and The US Embassy Nassau where Bahamian students across the archipelago connected virtually with over 120 representatives of U.S. Colleges and Universities! The free event was designed specifically for international students and their parents, counselors, and teachers. Using a unique virtual environment, Akhepran scholars gathered in the school’s auditorium and watched videos, sent text messages on a variety of topics to education experts, and made their first steps towards studying in the United States!

In order to participate in this powerful experience the scholars pre-registered and created student profiles online prior to the virtual fair so that on the day of the fair they enjoyed the unique direct access to hundreds of university and college admissions directors and representatives who guided them with invaluable information regarding scholarship opportunities, degree programs, waived application fees, and key insights of college acceptance.

The scholars thoroughly benefitted from the experience and were treated to a surprise visit from Mrs. Carla Turnquest – Director of Education USA Bahamas who encouraged them to submit their names for many of the scholarships that were being offered by participating colleges. Akhepran is a technology based school and so the students took delight in using their laptop and iPads to engage in personal chats with over 120 college and university representatives during the virtual college fair during school hours. Some of the participating institutions included leading Universities of Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Michigan, New York, Virginia, California, Arizon, Washington and many more.

Dr. Jacinta Higgs – Principal noted that the virtual free experience was a most precious investment as 15% of the Akhepran scholars received college acceptance letters and over $35,000 scholarships from various colleges at the end of the virtual college fair.
