Nassau, Bahamas - This Independence Day, in order to highlight the care of our national bird, the flamingo, Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre hosted its first 242 IN THE ZOO with an ole fashion Bahamian cook-out Fundraiser.

There were many things Bahamian to see, like the national bird, the national tree and flower, a flamingo show, the lorry parrot encounter and feeding, with over 183 animals, 48 different species, in season native fruits to pick, a lovely green garden, family and friends all on the 4-acre property.

There was lots of native food including all the Bahamian staples like fritters, fried fished, chicken and macaroni. There was sky juice and coconut water, and every native pastry you could think of thanks to Foxy's Sweet Treats and A Sweet Taste Cakes and Pastries.

The flamingoes roam the zoo and garden grounds freely – they run the show and have been the main feature at the zoo for may decades.

The event  was a success and Ardastra looks forward to next year being bigger and better.
