Nassau, Bahamas – The Bahamian Contractors’ Association (BCA) paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Works, the Honourable Phillip Brave Davis and his senior staff at the end of November, to introduce their new board. Discussions also included the new draft of the Contractors Bill that is currently being reviewed by the BCA and the Ministry of Works. The meeting provided an opportunity to speak on behalf of the construction industry on matters relating to the industry as well as discuss upcoming activities of the BCA.

“We discussed the new revamping of our Association and shared our vision and upcoming activities,” said new president, Leonard Sands. “With regards to the Contractor’s Bill, we have been pushing for this bill for the past 20 years, and while it is not perfect, it meets about ninety to ninety-five percent of the goals and objectives of the BCA.” Sands also said that they were optimistic that if the Bill were enacted that it would revitalize the construction and building sectors and bring Bahamian contractors into the 21st century in respect to international standards and industry best practices.

On December 11, 2015 the First BCA “Contractors Truck Stop Meet and Greet” will take place from 4 pm to 9 pm at Arawak Cay in New Providence. This FREE event is open to contractors, carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers, architects, truckers, landscapers, painters, tilers, construction workers and support staff. Major construction companies will be on site and further information can be obtained from the VP of the BCA, Ms. Tameka Hanna at tamekahanna@gmail.com.

The Bahamian Contractors’ Association was founded in 1958 and the new board is mandated to return to it’s founding principals of that to “Promote the consideration and discussion of all questions affecting the building trade, which is not exclusive to builders or contractors but everyone relating to the construction industry and most importantly, to protect its members individually and collectively.”
