Nassau, Bahamas – This October the Bahamas Waste family will don
their pink shirts again and remind Bahamians about early testing to
detect and prevent cancer. They are also very pleased to have been
asked to partner with CIBC FirstCaribbean in this year’s ‘Walk for the
Cure’.
“I do not know of anyone that has not been affected by
the devastation of this horrible disease,” said Francisco de Cardenas,
Managing Director at Bahamas Waste. “If there is
anything that we can do, however big or small, to bring awareness or better yet, save a life – we will do it!”
Last
October the Waste mechanical department painted one of their garbage
trucks bright pink to help raise awareness of cancer in The Bahamas and
to support the message to test early. The staff, which are mainly male,
also donned shirts that said “Real Men Wear Pink” in support of cancer
month and one of their own employees, Hartley Strachan, who is a
three-time survivor of the disease.
The company is now very
pleased to have been asked to bring their Big Pink Truck out for the
‘Walk for the Cure’, which is scheduled in New Providence for Sunday,
October 4th at 7:00am beginning at the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre.
The long route will take participants to the Sandals Resort and back,
and the Survivors Route will be to the Melia Roundabout and back.
Bahamas Waste is incredibly proud to be participating in more events
that promote cancer awareness and support a cause near and dear to them.
“CIBC FirstCaribbean is pleased to partner with Bahamas Waste
Management in the fight against cancer,” said Marie Rodland-Allen,
Managing Director, CIBC FirstCaribbean, Bahamas & TCI. “We dedicate
the months of August through October to raising the public’s awareness
of the various types of cancer and to raising funds to assist Bahamians
in need. We recognise Bahamas Waste Management’s desire to support
cancer research and support cancer survivors and we commend them for
their show of public support by way of the pink cancer support Waste
truck. We believe that in partnering with Bahamas Waste Management, we
can bring more awareness to this disease and highlight the need for a
cure.”
CIBC FirstCaribbean teams in Abaco, Grand Bahama and
Eleuthera will also be walking in support of the fight against Cancer.
Their walks will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 7am. Bahamas
Waste encourages everyone in New Providence, Abaco, Grand Bahama and
Eleuthera to participate in the CIBC FirstCaribbean Walk for the Cure to
help raise funds and show support for those living with cancer, as
well
as for those who have lost the fight. Entry forms are available on
their Facebook page as well as at any CIBC FirstCaribbean branch.
As
October nears the Waste family reminds everyone that early prevention
is the key, and reminds you when you see the big pink truck to consider
making that appointment to get tested and to consider joining CIBC
FirstCaribben in their walk for a cure!
