Press Statement announcing a Banquet to honour Mrs. Mary C. Cooper, retired educator in the Grand Bahama, Bimini and The Cays District:

Today, we are honoured to gather here and announce plans to celebrate one of the finest educators in The Bahamas, who has recently retired.  Mrs. Mary C. Cooper, a native daughter of West End has retired after forty-four years of unselfish and dedicated service as an educator.  During her celebrated career, Mrs. Cooper served with excellence as a teacher, senior mistress, vice-principal, assistant director of education and finally for the past seven years as a district superintendent.

Mrs. Cooper began her teaching career at the legendary Hawksbill High School where she served as a teacher and administrator.  She has served as a vice-principal at The Discovery Primary School, now Bishop Michael School and as the principal of West End All Age School and St. Georges High School.  To date, she is the longest serving principal of St. Georges High School and the only female to serve there as principal.

In recognition of this dedicated and passionate educational leader and under the theme: “A Labour of Love Celebrated,” a banquet will be held on Wednesday, 30th May at 7:00 p.m. at The Grand Lucayan Resort.  We are appealing to the Grand Bahama community to join us in celebrating Mrs. Cooper’s legacy as an excellent organizational leader.

On behalf of The Ministry of Education, we publicly thank Mrs. Cooper for her invaluable contributions to the development of education in The Bahamas and we appeal to you to attend this banquet and personally congratulate Mrs. Cooper.

Thank You.
