Nassau, Bahamas - The Honourable Jerome Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science and Technology was the keynote speaker at the 2014 graduation ceremony of the C.R. Walker Senior High School. Addressing the theme, “Climbing the Mountain: Pursuing the Dream”, Minister Fitzgerald told the graduates that mountain climbing is not for the faint at heart. “As you ascend to the mountaintop of victory, remember that you are the leaders of your generation. You are charged with the responsibility to be agents of change who will transform your community, country and the world”, he said.

The Minister asked the 2014 graduates to consider four things if they wanted their mountain climbing experience to be exciting, exhilarating and rewarding. First, identify your mountain. Secondly, do your research and plan ahead. Third, allow courage to rise to the surface and drive you to obtain the funding, training, skills and supplies needed to realize the dream. Last, think globally. “At this time in history, there are so many options available to you. Options exist that your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did not even envision. You have the opportunity to climb greater mountains than they did and arrive at summits that would make them proud of your achievements”, said Minister Fitzgerald. He encouraged the graduating C.R. Walker Knights to continue to employ the seven Knightly virtues of courage, justice, mercy, generosity, faith, nobility and hope as they advance to the next level of education or into their chosen career.

Dr. Nottage thanked the students for staying in school and told them to strive to do their best because what they become is the gift that they will give back to the country. “I challenge and encourage you to make the best of the education that you have received. Don’t climb the mountain but move the mountain. Be the best Bahamian that you can be”, he said.
