College freshman, Tamara Sawyer, who has been studying in Canada, has set up a Go-Fund-Me page to help get her grandfather's leaking roof repaired in Eleuthera. Her grandfather Austin Brown is a widower and is having eyesight issues. The family is concerned about hurricane season.

The page says, "Hello, my name is Tamara Sawyer. I am sharing this video of my grandfather's house in Green Castle, Eleuthera, Bahamas. My grandfather's name is Austin Brown. My grandmother, his wife of 56 years died 2 years ago and my uncle now takes care of him in the family's house."

"A section of the roof is in a very bad con dition. My mother and uncle are working towards fixing it so she took it to our family whatsapp group to gather contributions. The majority of them are living on a budget so that was one of the reasons the movement had stalled. My mother already purchased 20 sheets of plywood and had gotten a donation from a friend of hers. She is still trying to have this fixed because of hurricane season."

"I am a freshman in college abroad and noticed my mom trying to work it out so I decided to do this for her. I have included with this video a photo of the material list which does not include labour. Once we can get the materials, that will be a big help for her. Thank you so much for your donation and I will keep you updated on our progress."

The Bahamas Weekly spoke with Tamara's mother, Morissa Brown who lives in Freeport and she said that she purchased 20 sheets of plywood, but has not been able to send it to Eleuthera as yet. When asked why her brother who lives with the grandfather does not fix the roof, she said, "My brother lives there but he does not know anything about building. We have a family member who is in the construction business that will fix the roof so he checked it to see what materials we would need. He gave my brother a list and he took it to the lumber company in Tarpon Bay."

Her father, Tamara's grandfather, is presently getting his vision checked in Nassau. Ms. Brown continued, "I was skeptical of the Go-Fund-Me page, until Tamara explained how it works to me. We appreciate any support to ensure my father's home is secure this hurricane season."

The photo above is of my grandfather, my aunts, Kizzy and Theresa, and my cousins, Renaldo and Shavago. My grandfather is awesome! He is the funniest person in the world and the love he has for his grandchildren is admirable.
