CompTIA Rep Speaks to Certification Opportunities

Second-year students of the government’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) summer youth program at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) recently received additional information about the opportunities available in the information technology (IT) world from Director for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Latin America and Caribbean division, Leonard Wadewitz.

Mr. Wadewitz spoke on the importance of CompTIA certifications. CompTIA is a leader in the IT industry worldwide, issuing professional certifications. As a part of the ICT program, the students will be sitting several CompTIA certifications including A+ and Network+.

Mr. Wadewitz encouraged the eleventh graders not to limit their studies in the world of IT and to explore all the careers available in such an expansive industry. He expressed how acquiring CompTIA certifications can open a world of opportunities for them.

During his visits to ICT students at BTVI’s New Providence and Grand Bahama campuses, he commended them for signing up for such an innovative summer program for high schoolers and encouraged them to take advantage of it. The three year ICT summer, which is the brainchild of Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Dr. Hubert Minnis, is a program that trains students leaving the ninth grade in the modules of I.T. Fundamentals, Linux Unhatched, Introduction to Cyber Security, Python, JavaScript, professional performances and ethics.

BTVI received the top award for the highest CompTIA certification scores out of 40 testing centers in 2017 and 2018. BTVI has over 300 students taking CompTIA exams annually.
