Nassau, Bahamas - Thirty boys of a local Boys’ Brigade company are one step closer to heading to the organisation’s annual summer camp thanks to Consolidated Water Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: CWCO), which develops and operates seawater desalination plants and water distribution systems in areas of the world where naturally occurring supplies of potable water are scarce or non-existent. At a short presentation at the troop’s home base, St. Barnabas Anglican Church, CWCO presented the 23rd Company of The Boys’ Brigade with a donation to defray the costs of travel and living expenses for the 10 day camp.

Boys’ Brigade Company Captain Henry Curry stated that the troop was incredibly thankful for the donation, the first step in many to getting the 30 boys to the camp.

“We are grateful to CWCO for assisting us with our camp. This year we have our camp in Treasure Cay, Abaco and we are hoping to take 30 boys with us. We rely on institutions such as CWCO to assist us in taking these young men to this camp, and we hope they are the first of many.”

Captain Curry added that the camp, like the Boys’ Brigade organisation, is founded on religious principles and the virtue of discipline, and aims to give the boys an anchor in a time that has been particularly hard on the country’s young men.

“Aside from being the oldest organisation for young males in the world, Boys Brigade is unique in that it has two pillars of strength: discipline and religion. At the camp the boys will not only engage in recreational activities, we will teach them to cook, clean, and wash their clothes.”

He continued, “By teaching the boys discipline through religion we hope to mould these young boys, many of whom are from the neighbourhood and others from the Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home. When they are going through difficult times in their lives, Boys’ Brigade provides these boys with something or someone to hold on to, and that is why we use the anchor, the cross, and the rope as our symbols.”

Fourteen year old Trayias Bowe, a five-year member of the 23rd Company of The Boys’ Brigade, said that he believes the discipline he learns at Boys’ Brigade will carry him throughout life.

“I think that Boys’ Brigade has changed my life and made me into the well-rounded boy I am today,” Trayias said. “I am still deciding what I want to do when I grow up, it’s between a cardiologist and an accountant, but I think Boys’ Brigade will help me in either one because it gives me discipline. Discipline helps me to know the right and wrong path and keeps me focused on studying.”

General Manager Bryan Russell said that Boys’ Brigade is making a clear difference in the lives of young men like Trayias and that CWCO is pleased to give to an organisation which is making such a positive impact.

“At CWCO we feel it is our duty to give back to the communities that we operate in and serve,” said Mr. Russell. “It is clear when we speak to the participants that they not only love attending their Boys’ Brigade meetings and camps, but they are gaining from them tremendously. We believe that through supporting The Boys’ Brigade camp and its mission, we are advocating for safe and positive spaces for young men at a time when they are very much needed. We are happy to play our part in making Bahamas a better place for young men and boys.”
