DNA Leader offer prayers for two year old shooting victim

Our nation woke up to devastating news that a two year old child was shot in Governor’s Harbor, Eleuthera yesterday. This comes weeks after another young girl, Lorencia Simmons Walkes was a victim of gun violence in our country. How can we forget young 8 year old Eugene Woodside of Chippingham who was shot while doing his homework at home? Or 6 year old Cameron Cooper of Piper Lane, who was shot in a gun crossfire while preparing to go to school? These innocent children were caught in the middle of a crime of which they were presumably not the target. Their names should not be forgotten and we owe a duty to them and the other children of this nation to ensure that this menace does not continue.

As a mother of three children, I am very concerned by this trend and its impact on the young people of The Bahamas. It is disturbing that little children can be victims of violence in their homes and while living their lives. The government must step up its efforts to address this crime pandemic and combat gun violence in our nation. It is not okay to live in fear of crime for our nation’s future – our children.

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) sends our thoughts and prayers for the young girl. We pray that the Lord will heal her and grant her the strength to pull through this ordeal. We are also praying for the family of this latest victim.
