In celebration of Occupational Therapists Day, the occupational therapists of Doctor’s Hospital held a clothing drive to assist the teen mothers who participate in the PACE (Providing Access to Continued Education) program. Zenobia Neely, the clothing drive’s coordinator, noted that, “In keeping with this year’s theme ‘Inform, Inspire, Influence’ the group chose to assist this underserved group within the Bahamian population. We believe that they would benefit from our donation as well as information about Occupational Therapy.” The group donated new and gently used baby items, baby wipes and boxes of diapers donated by Bebin Diapers who learned about the initiative on social media.

The Doctors Hospital Occupational Therapists also conducted a presentation about the role occupational therapy can play in supporting mother and baby as well as the various job options available in the rehabilitative care field. Following the presentation, the program’s Principal Jacqueline Knowles thanked the group and said “we are grateful for the donation, as the girls need all of the help they can get. And in addition to clothing items, they really need positive role models to sow into their lives. Today’s talk was really helpful and hopefully inspired them to start thinking about their career options.”
