Nassau, THE BAHAMAS - The Deltec Initiative for Scholarship & Education has established a scholarship tenable at University of The Bahamas to provide academic financial assistance to young Bahamian students from the Family Islands who possess extraordinary scholastic talent and require financial assistance to enable them to pursue a tertiary education.
On Wednesday, 21st August 2019, Mrs. Tanya Carey, Chief Financial Officer of Deltec Bank & Trust Limited and Director of the Deltec Initiatives Foundation, announced the partnership during the signing of an MOU for the Deltec Initiatives Foundation Scholarship Award.
She expressed the Foundation’s commitment to provide access to tertiary education. “Deltec advocates for promising and deserving young Bahamians who desire to pursue higher education but require assistance to achieve this noble goal.”
Deltec’s First Scholar, Miss Aaliyah Adderley is embraced by Mrs. Ethel Chalopin, Executive Chairperson, Deltec Initiatives Foundation.

Mrs. Carey also introduced the first ever Deltec Scholar, Aaliyah Adderley. “This Scholarship award is in recognition of the exceptional academic achievement, student leadership and personal excellence that Aaliyah, a Long Island native, demonstrated during the course of her secondary education, and the outstanding positive impression that she made on our board of directors during the interview process.”
The Deltec Foundation will provide financing up to full coverage of tuition and appropriate fees related to the degree programme, for up to four years of study at the University. All students graduating from public high schools in the Family Islands may apply for the Scholarship.
Speaking on behalf of University of The Bahamas, Mr. Dino Hernandez, Vice President of Institutional Advancement conveyed UB’s gratitude to Deltec for this noteworthy initiative.

“On behalf of University of The Bahamas, we are deeply appreciative of this gift from the Deltec Initiatives Foundation, said Mr. Hernandez.
He further reiterated the importance of scholarships curated exclusively for Family Island students given the unique circumstance many of them have to face to pursue tertiary education.
“UB Family Island students are special to us, they possess extraordinary scholastic talents and tenacity to travel and acclimate to either our New Providence or Grand Bahama campus in pursuit of their tertiary education. The assistance rendered through this generous gift alleviates some of the pressure they and their families may experience,” Mr. Hernandez shared.
Aaliyah expressed her gratitude for the generosity of Deltec Initiatives Foundation and UB.
