Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) is pleased to announce the expansion of its financial aid and scholarship programme. LCIS Principal Dr Stacey Bobo said, “We are so grateful to have so many supporters who are interested in developing more opportunities for Bahamian students  to  attend  LCIS.  Our  growth  is  happening  as  we  expand  our  campus and build a  new  secondary  school  that  creates  more  spaces for students.  Hand in hand with this, we are  also  in  the  midst  of  a  multi-year  expansion  of  our  Financial  Aid  and  Scholarships  Programme.  Over  the  next  three  to four years, there will be even more opportunities than ever for children to attend our school.”

Since  the  school  was  founded  in  1962,  the  LCIS  community  has  had  a  longstanding  commitment to making its world-class international education accessible to a wide range of Bahamian  families.  The  school’s  unique  three-tier  programme  provides  a  combination  of  support  to  meet  a  variety  of  families’  needs.  The  average  award  is  $10,000,  but awards range  from  10-95%  and  there  are  several  new  full  scholarships  at  the  school.  The school  has  awarded  over  $2.2  million  in  funding  since  the  programme  begun  10  years  ago,  and graduates  are  successful  in  obtaining additional funding for university abroad.  The school  seeks to double its annual awards over the next five years.

“We  are  excited  to  roll  out  several  new  funding  opportunities  for  local  youth,”  said  Mrs  Rose-Marie  Taylor,  Director  of  Admissions.  “This  year,  we  are  specifically  recruiting  for  a new scholarship for students in grades 5-7 who want to join our school. We have had a lot of  interest  in this one scholarship, but there are many other options including needs-based  financial  aid  and  other  scholarships  for  students  who  can add to the school community in specific ways.”
This  past  September,  the  school  awarded  two  full  scholarships  to  talented  high  school  students. One of the scholarships was made possible through the generous contributions of participants  at  the  2017  Swing  for  Scholarships  golf  event sponsored by Julius Baer Bank  (Bahamas)  Limited.  “We  were  excited  to  underwrite  this  scholarship  fundraising  event, because  then  all  participants  donations  would  go  directly  to  a  student,”  says  Julius  Baer  Managing  Director  Federico  Riege.  “Now  everyone  can  see  the  difference  that  their  gift made on that one day.”

LCIS  students  have  the  benefits  of  a  community-based  school with a global focus which provides  local and international families with the best preparation for university and the world of work.

Opportunities  have  also  been  made  available  to  students  outside of New Providence who  have family members that they can live with in the area. “I have never won a bingo game or a grand prize in a raffle before, but when I learned that my daughter received a scholarship to  attend  Lyford  Cay  International  School, for me it was a prayer that had been answered  and a grand prize all in one. I had a little apprehension as it meant my daughter had to leave Freeport  for  Nassau, but it has been a wonderful opportunity for her to experience the fine education  and  excellent  environment,”  said  parent  Mrs  Sheryl  Rahming.  Mrs.  Rahming’s  daughter was the recipient of the Connery Family Scholarship.

For  more  information  about  admissions  process  or  the  financial  aid  and  scholarship  programme,  please  contact  rtaylor@lcis.bs  or  (242)  362-4774  or  go  to www.lcis.bs/admissions.  Applications for the 2019-20 school year are due December 15.

Founded  in  1962,  Lyford  Cay  International  School  (LCIS)  is  a  fully accredited international  day  school  located  in  western  New  Providence  offering  the  International  Baccalaureate curriculum to students aged 18 months to 18 years. LCIS students move on to top colleges and universities around the world. Visit: www.lcis.bs for more information or to apply.
