Members of BTC flight 242 JA Company, including Most Distinguished Achiever Bobbeth Colebrook (second from right), enjoy the Junior Achievement Banquet last year.

Nassau, New Providence - The 2nd annual Bahamas Telecommunications Company “Dynasty Future Leaders Seminar” on February 3rd at the BCPOU Hall is open to all students in Junior Achiever (JA) programmes, advises BTC JA Executive Advisor, Barry Wilmott.

"The event allows BTC and other sponsored JA companies the opportunity to get a first-hand experience of the various professional careers in BTC. This year working under the Theme, "Youth Innovation Leading The Way", BTC Advisory Team wanted to highlight some of past Achievers under the age of 30 who are successful entrepreneurs today. These individuals will inspire, motivate, encourage and challenge our Junior Achievers to follow their dreams and to use their talents to become employers rather than employees.”

Barry Wilmott is an acknowledged and award-winning advisor and as Executive Advisor for BTC JA Company, his focus is to provide the necessary exposure and skills needed in pursuit of becoming a successful individual. BTC has been a major supporter of the youth programme for over 37 years.

“I remind each of them on a weekly basis, that I will ensure they get the best training from the programme so that at the end of the day, we can easily say that we, "won achievers, rather than awards". My favourite quote to our Achievers simply states, "Think It, Work on It, and Make It Happen."

The mission of JA Bahamas is to promote economic literacy and understanding of business and competitive free-enterprise among young Bahamians, the future leaders of The Bahamas. The programme provides a unique experience of hands-on learning over an extended training period. It helps with financial literacy, social interaction, academic enrichment and personal growth and it sets goals and objectives for the team members to help prepare them for their move into the job market.

“I made a commitment last year to motivate and coach them to see the wisdom of also winning individual titles in addition to winning team awards. Over the years, I have come to recognise that if you also develop, mentor and coach our future leaders for individual glory they will go on to win awards throughout their life.”

Last year, BTC Flight 242 Company-member Bobbeth Colebrook beat out more than 500 others to capture the title of Most Distinguished Achiever and the 2015 Speech Competition winner. Overall, the company took home 17 awards.
