Philippe Jn Philippe was the grand prize winner of GraceKennedy Money Services’ “Look Who’s Feasting This Christmas” supermarket dash which took place on Thursday, January 14. The grocery grab, valued at $1,000, was held at Xtra Valu Food Store, Nassau Village.

SAVING GRACE

When Philippe Jn Philippe sent money to Haiti to help with funeral costs for his mother, he had no idea that simple transaction executed at Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) would win him a two-and-half minute supermarket dash valued at $1,000.

On Thursday, the father of two had the opportunity to grab everything he needed and wanted.

“You better run. You better run. You’re not running,” friendly food store workers encouraged the competition winner.

Another staff member at the Nassau Village supermarket patted the 47-year-old on his back as if to say, “hurry up,” when the sandals-wearing Mr Philippe strolled by with his trolley shortly after 7 am.

The first stop was the Huggies shelves. His youngest child is just a month-old. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment the father could not recall his daughter’s size.

GraceKennedy Money Services’ supermarket dash winner Philippe Jn Philippe received an Xtra Valu grocery store voucher as well as an assortment of GraceKennedy promotional items from Lovy Jean, operations and network development manager at GKMS Bahamas. Mr Philippe won the grand prize when he sent money to Haiti last month.

“Throw them things inside the trolley. You can change it later,” someone suggested.

However, the excitement proved to be too much for the man mourning the recent loss of his mother. Luckily, he possessed the foresight to bring along his fast-moving nephew to complete the dash after sympathetic organizers reset the countdown.

“Thank God for GraceKennedy Money Services,” said Mr Philippe expressing his gratitude for the Western Union agent, which operates five locations in New Providence, one in Grand Bahama and another coming soon to Exuma.

“It just goes to show there is some light in every darkness,” said Lovy Jean, operations and network development manager at GKMS Bahamas.

“We were happy to see Mr Philippe’s nephew step in. He knew what the family needed and was able to fill three trolleys with grocery items. Throughout all our community initiatives, the goal is to make our customers’ day just a little bit brighter by lifting a burden from their shoulders.”

From December 11–31, anyone who sent or received funds at GKMS Western Union locations were eligible to win weekly $500 grocery vouchers and the supermarket dash grand prize.

Kendra Prosper, Orett Stewart and Charlene Strachan won the vouchers.

Throughout the pandemic, GKMS and Grace Foods have partnered in several regional food drives in response to the urgent need to assist families experiencing hardship from loss of income associated with COVID-19.

Last year, GKMS donated more than 200 care packages containing Grace Foods products to the Bahamian government.
