Nassau, Bahamas - The end of October marks the 1st year anniversary for Graycliff Chocolatier, home to gourmet chocolates that are created from the bean to the bar on our own premises. In an effort to celebrate this special occasion, we have chosen to give back to the community that has been so welcoming and supportive of the Chocolate Factory.

With so many organizations in need, it was a difficult choice; however, this year, we have chosen a cause close to our hearts, and carefully selected an individual we felt was deserving of assistance. Candice Pinder, founder of Angels for Adoption, is just this person. Candice started Angels for Adoption in 2011 from her home in Spanish Wells as a means to help and support both the Humane Society and individuals that had found puppies in need of a home. Like Nassau, both Spanish Wells and Eleuthera as a whole experience an overwhelming problem with homeless potcakes.

Taking on the personal responsibility of fostering, feeding, providing veterinary care and finding homes for these puppies is a full-time job that requires endless dedication and a huge heart. Having relocated to Nassau, Candice insists that were it not for friends Claire Cash, Elena Russell and Doris Ondella (in Eleuthera), and the assistance of others, she would be at a loss. These ladies have all assisted with temporarily fostering and caring for their rescued four-legged friends.

Angels for Adoption, facing an increasing number of fosters to find homes for, turned to social media as a means to reach a larger audience. Since initiating their Angels for Adoption Facebook page, Candice and her team have been able to find homes for close to 300 puppies locally, but astoundingly, also in Canada, Florida, Boston, Philadelphia, and Colorado, to name a few. Just this year alone, Angels for Adoption has managed to place over 100 puppies in homes across Canada –so much so that the term “Canadian Potcake” is now widely accepted, understood and embraced by many.

How exactly does Angels for Adoption manage to place these pups in such far-away homes? Well, it starts with social media – with sharing the story of each little friend and appealing to a network of individuals to assist in finding a willing foster home. But that’s only the beginning – from there, flights need to be arranged, travel documents as needed, veterinary care to ensure the puppies are able to fly and emigrate, arranging pick-ups and drop-offs, finding escorts to accompany the animals – the task seems almost endless, and that’s just for one puppy, never mind one hundred. And yet, this does not seem to deter Candice, as this defender of the young states, “A lot of organizing and work goes into each and every puppy that gets adopted. If more people would help, we could save so many more!”

While you might think that’s the end of their involvement, it continues to this day. After a puppy reaches its final destination, Angels for Adoption maintains on-going contact with the fostering family, and regularly receives updates and photographs of each little friend which is then shared on Facebook.

Hearing of Candice’s story, and the tremendous efforts she has made through Angels for Adoption, Graycliff Chocolatier was instantly touched and felt compelled to support such a worthy cause. “When we heard about Angels for Adoption and the incredible number of puppies that had been found so many homes in so many different countries, we were amazed. We greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication that both Candice and those that assist her have put into such a worthwhile cause, and it is truly our honour to support Angels for Adoption in any way we can.”

In commemoration of the Graycliff Chocolatier’s first anniversary, the company will be featuring special chocolate bars in the shape of a dog bone. Part proceeds of the sale of these bars, along with an array of other chocolate products, from October 10th – October 31st, will be donated to Angels for Adoption. In addition, the chocolate store, located on the Graycliff property, West Hill Street, in downtown Nassau, will be collecting food, toys, blankets and all personal-care goods for the puppies on behalf of Angels for Adoption for the remainder of the month.

Please join us in this happy dual celebration of Graycliff’s Chocolatier’s anniversary and Angels for Adoption achievements by making a purchase on specialty-labeled Graycliff Chocolate products and donating any goods you may have available.
