Nautilus Water and Havana Humidor Join Unique Fundraiser To Help Fight Hunger in The Bahamas

Nassau, Bahamas – Paradise Plates, Hands For Hunger’s second annual fundraiser, is continuing to receive support from local merchants. Nautilus Water will be returning this year as the official water served at the event and Havana Humidor will be selling their Bahamian premium brand of cigars to guests. Royal Fidelity has also joined the list of sponsors for Paradise Plates which will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 7 – 11 p.m. at the Atlantis Crown Ballroom.

“Nautilus Water is thrilled to join Hands for Hunger at their Paradise Plates 2010 event,” said Shannon Bruce, Marketing Manager for Prime Bahamas Ltd. and Nautilus Water. “This is our second year participating. Not only are we strongly committed to giving back to the community in any way possible, but our very purpose, supplying the public with a healthy and pure drinking water, charges us to promote healthy living for all. Combating hunger and malnutrition, and supplying a reliable source of drinking water are basic needs. We are dedicated to ensuring that these needs are met and Hands For Hunger, by creating the fantastic Paradise Plates event, has afforded our company the opportunity to do so.”

“As a Bahamian company, Havana Humidor is always pleased to give back to our community and we are happy to be a part of Paradise Plates,” said Adam Collins, Director of Operations for Havana Humidor. “Paradise Plates is an evening of fine food, wine and spirits and enjoying a fine cigar complements the experience. We will be selling our marquis Havana Humidor premium cigars, made from our signature tobacco blends and donating 100% of sales for the evening towards Hands for Hunger’s noble cause. We are proud to be a part of Paradise Plates and to contribute to an agency that helps to feed those that need it most.”

Chefs from 20 different restaurants, catering businesses, wine and spirit merchants are busy preparing to showcase exciting new creations or their well-loved signature fare, specialty wines and beverages to guests of Paradise Plates.

Sponsored by The New Providence Development Company Limited and Tommy Hilfiger, the creatively presented event showcases a lavish array of gourmet food prepared by Chefs from Nassau’s premier restaurants, fine wine and spirits and live entertainment with all proceeds benefitting Hands For Hunger the non-profit, humanitarian organization committed to the elimination of hunger and the reduction of food waste in The Bahamas.

To date, Chefs from a wide variety of restaurants including: Old Fort Bay Club; Dune; Nobu; Mesa Grill; British Colonial Hilton; Compass Point; Food Art By Cacique; Essence Catering & Premium Food Services; Goodfellow Farms; Luciano's of Chicago; Le Petit Gourmet; La Hipica Spanish Tapas and Grill; Patisserie Tea Room; VanBreugels, the Lyford Cay Club and Sun And… have agreed to participate and showcase their extraordinary food.

Fine wine will also be showcased at Paradise Plates. Mendoza Wine Imports will be returning this year and offering samples of wine from Argentina and Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company will be featuring Sands draft beer. SHG Management/Tropics Beverage Company will also be returning this year offering a premium martini from their frozen fruit blends.

“We are honoured to have so many of last year’s Chefs, restaurants and vendors returning to make the evening a great success,” said Rosamund Roberts, who along with Andrea Strommer is Co-Director of Fundraising for the organization and in charge of leading the event planning. “There is no question that the food, wine and beverages being served for the evening will be extraordinary given the caliber of the participants. Paradise Plates will be bigger this year and we are pleased to be presenting several new Chefs and restaurants as well as the addition of cigars. We are very grateful to them and our other sponsors for their generous support. Paradise Plates is receiving tremendous response from the public and we look forward to another memorable evening.”

Other sponsors include: Atlantis, Creative Relations, Credit Suisse, Pearle Vision, Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Star Assurance, The D’Albenas Agency, Charles E Carey and Sons, Coldwell Banker/Lightbourn Realty, Odyssey Aviation, Bahamas Local.

All proceeds from Paradise Plates will go to Hands For Hunger and its food rescue program. Each day, Hands For Hunger picks-up fresh, high quality food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it to community centers, shelters, churches and soup kitchens throughout New Providence.

Since operations began in March of 2009, H4H has already distributed over 200,000 lbs of food to those in need (approximately equal to 200,000 meals served) and prevented more than 388.5 tonnes of C02 carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere.

“Hunger is a solvable problem. It is a fact that there is more than enough food on this island to amply feed every single woman, man and child. Hands For Hunger functions to connect this excess supply with the unmet, ever growing need through the more equitable and efficient distribution of resources, ” said Alanna Rodgers, Founder and Program Coordinator of Hands For Hunger. “The proceeds raised from Paradise Plates will go directly to addressing a most basic human need in our community.”

The amazing array of food and drink is complemented by a silent auction, raffle, live entertainment and beautiful décor. Tickets are $140 per person.
