Paradise Island, The Bahamas – In keeping with its ongoing support for Special Olympics Bahamas, Harborside Resort at Atlantis recently donated a whopping $10,000 to the organization which aims to provide training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities.

“This year is a special year in that it is an Olympic year with the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games opening in Los Angeles on July 25th,” explains Harborside GM Judith Thompson. “It is hoped that our support, coupled with the generous support of the wider community, will enable Special Olympics Bahamas to take each and every one of our special athletes to the games to participate,” she adds.

Some 36 athletes are currently in training to take part in the 2015 Games.

Harborside has been an avid supporter of Special Olympics Bahamas for more than 10 years. Over the years since its existence, Special Olympics Bahamas has grown from a body of 25 athletes and a programme on one island to 450 athletes and more Family Island participation.
