Nassau, Bahamas - The Bain Grants Town Advancement Association held a successful health walk on Saturday, led by community Nurse Larrie Ferguson. The topic: Measles, Dengue and Scabies Prevention. This is the first in a series of walk-abouts designed to provide access to health information to residents, while allowing them the opportunity to raise questions they may have to a health professional. Streets covered included Hutchenson, Finlayson, Eneas and Augusta Streets, Bain Town.

Nurse Ferguson, assisted by BGTA Secretary Ms. Gibson, informed residents of the importance of making sure that children and adults have their vaccinations up to date, especially children aged 1 and under. This after a measles outbreak in the United States gives this country reason for warning to increase its successful immunisation statistics. Also, with the rise in Dengue fever in Jamaica, BGTA thought it important to show residents how to eliminate mosquito breeding in their yards and homes. The scabies cases at Carmichael Primary also led the team to hand out flyers with as much information as possible on how scabies comes about and how to prevent it. Sanctioned by Rev. C.B. Moss, residents received the BGTA members well and took the pamphlets provided, promising to share the information with others.
