Nassau, Bahamas - It was an evening like none other.  Like never before, the Heart Ball Committee hosted its Annual Heart Ball. Hundred of persons gathered together to raise funds to repair children’s hearts, while celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Heart Foundation.  Old friends and new friends met to attend what has been deemed the best Heart Ball, by far.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Heart Foundation and the 47th Annual Ball, under the theme “Saving little hearts for 50 years, one beat at a time”, The Heart Ball Committee celebrated in grand style. Guests were greeted from the outside with a kiss of flora and fauna; hinting at the ambiance that was to come. Floral arches graced the entrance and the red carpet was laid out, in anticipation for special guests who had turned out for such a worthy cause.  The foyer told you that you were now in a different place, the inner sanctum of the garden of love and flowers; preparing guests for the grand ballroom, the treats, the eats and the tons of fun. When the guest entered the Independence Ball Room, they were indeed in a Garden made with love; prepared by Michelle White of Floral Arts. Love, laughter, kindness and beauty saturated the atmosphere; as flowers and greenery embraced the guest.

According to Portia Nottage, Heart Ball Co-chair, “I am very grateful that it has all come together so well. The Committee and I are very thankful to all who have donated in one form or another. We would like to thank the general public and corporate entities that have partnered with us in the treatment of heart disease in children, by donating selflessly. We look forward to your continued support in years to come. Heart disease is the number one killer of persons in The Bahamas. We must save our little ones”.

In addition to the 50th anniversary of the Foundation, one of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of The Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award. This year’s awardee is Lady Camille Barnett. She was recognized especially for her work with The AIDS Foundation.

Music was provided by The Ed Brice Orchestra, The SG Band and The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Dinner Band.  Guests flocked the dance floor the moment “Stop the world and let me off” started. From thereon, patrons savored every moment of The Ball and the dance floor.

The top raffle prize winner was Mr. Kendrick Clarke. He won two World Traveler Plus tickets to London donated by British Airways, a pair of sapphire and white gold earrings from Coin of The Realm, an Antonius Roberts painting, and passes to The Bahamas International Film Festival and a stay at The Sheraton.

This year, the in-house auction was two-fold: hosted in part by The Heart Ball Committee and John Bull. The top items were the Raymond Weil watch for men, a Tiffany men’s watch, a painting by Clifford Fernander, white gold earrings and necklaces and a Fendi bag.
