Jeritzan Outten to be recognized as Bahamas tourism icon and nation builder

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - In celebration of the retirement and service of Jeritzen Edwards-Outten to the Ministry of Tourism, Living Waters Assemblies of God, under the leadership of Pastor Edward Victor, will hold a special service on Sunday, March 8th, 2015 at 11am.

A nation-builder and a pillar to the tourism framework that has been laid out for the island of Grand Bahama, Jeritzen Edwards - Outten has created a name for herself and a legacy of promise within the tourism industry. Coming from a large family, she is the second of ten children and a sixth generation native of Grand Bahama. Education has always been a passion for Jeritzen as she began her professional career as an Educator. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Techer’s Education, Bachelor’s in Education and Public Relations in addition to a Masters in Human Resources Management

Her journey within the Ministry of Tourism came to life in 1981 when she began as the Administrative Assistant to then Grand Bahama Tourist office Manager Michael Pinder. Jeritzen moved speedily through the organization, having held responsibility for; Bahamahost, People-to-People, Product Development and Events departments. Five years later, she etched her mark in the tourism history books when she trail blazed the way in opening the first family island tourist office, located on Andros Island.

Over the years she climbed the corporate later and in 2002 was graciously promoted to General Manager with responsibility for the development of the tourism product for Grand Bahama Island as well as the Human Resources department. Her ascension to greatness did not stop there, during the years 2003-2007 she elevated to the position of Director for the Abaco Tourist Office where she worked towards the development and promotion of a full range of tourism activities and infrastructural projects for the destination.

Returning once more to Grand Bahama in 2007 and 2008, this time as the Senior Director for Product Development and then for the island of Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas inclusive of the Abacos, Andros, Bimini and the Berry Islands.

Jeritzen also received numerous professional and civic accolades which include:

    1. 1992 Business & Professional Woman of the year for Grand Bahama Island – Presented by the Business and Professional Women’s Club
    2. Boss of the Year ‘95/’96 - Voted by the Grand Bahama Island Professional Secretaries Association
    3. Member of the National Honour Society in Business Management and Administration, United States of America
    4. Certification in Conflict Resolution- Florida Supreme Court Family Mediation Institute, United States of America

With an incomparable tenure of service to the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the professional community, the human element if this giant of a woman cannot be overlooked. Jeritzen holds to the belief that education and religion, by way of the Christian faith are without question two of pillars of the Bahamian society. Today, in light of her unwavering commitment to service, shed edicates her passion for education and the Christian faith in volunteering as an Adult Sunday School Teacher.
