Nassau, Bahamas – KFC Nassau, along with KFC restaurants across the globe kicked off its annual fight against hunger with the launch of its annual Yum! Brands sponsored World Hunger Relief (WHR) campaign. From now through November 2nd, the campaign will raise awareness, funds and much-needed food resources to help alleviate hunger - a major epidemic plaguing communities worldwide, including the Bahamas.

With continued awareness about those who lack adequate nutrition, 2013 was a phenomenal year for KFC Nassau’s World Hunger Relief campaign. The relief efforts of the six-week campaign raised over $20,000 thanks to the generous support of the brand’s customers, staff and the Bahamian community. This year, the brand looks forward to another successful year to have a significant impact on the lives of many in the Bahamian community that face the critical effects of this epidemic daily.

“With the overwhelmingly positive support of our loyal customers, staff and community, our annual World Hunger Relief campaign continues to assist the needs of many that are coping with hunger daily," said Eldira Backford, Ambassador for KFC Nassau’s World Hunger Relief Campaign. "Globally, food insecurity remains a growing problem and this year we look forward to another exciting and successful campaign.”

Half of the proceeds and all food drive items from this year’s World Hunger Relief Campaign will directly support several local social service agencies in the Bahamas through Hands for Hunger - one of the leading food relief agencies in the Bahamas, committed to servicing the local community coping with the hunger epidemic year-round. The remaining proceeds raised are sent to the United Nations’ World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger.

“For impactful relief agencies like Hands for Hunger, which serves several social service agencies here in the Bahamas, a donation as small as one dollar can provide a meal for someone in need. We appreciate their philanthropic efforts and we’re proud to once again support them in donating 50-percent of the World Hunger Relief proceeds, as well as all food donations from our in-store food drive,” Backford concluded.

Customers are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, as well as make a monetary donation during the checkout process at any of KFC Nassau’s convenient locations.

KFC Nassau is part of the Yum! global group of brands and is operated by Restaurants (Bahamas) Limited throughout New Providence.  Information on Hands for Hunger can be found at www.handsforhunger.org
