Nassau, Bahamas - The president of the Love Hill Community Builders, Heidi Mckenzie said for the first time in her lifetime, the children of that community were treated to a back to school celebration. Love Hill is small community of approximately 300 persons located in Central Andros. According to Ms. McKenzie, “We were so happy when Mrs. Sharmie Farrington-Austin approached us with the idea to partner for this first annual back to school event and we look forward to it getting bigger and better in the years to come.” Since announcing her independent candidacy for the South Andros constituency, Farrington-Austin has been on the ground connecting with residents. Most recently, co-sponsoring three back to school community events in Calabash Bay, Cargill Creek and Love Hill, Central Andros. Although designed for school age children, it was a coming together of families, community and religious leaders from Bowen Sound, Calabash Bay, Cargill Creek and surrounding settlements. According to Cargill Creek organizer Sheree Neymour, “for the past nine years, Mrs. Austin has been giving back to our community and we are always excited when she returns home.” During her remarks, Mrs Austin said, “ I wish to encourage our students to remain focus and to do all they can to achieve their goals this semester. Education is an important tool which can provide a road map to success. Therefore, it is our privilege to provide our students with school supplies and resources to ensure that they are able to obtain their educational goals.” Special prizes including tablets were awarded to the students with the highest grade point averages during this past school year as well as newly appointed prefects. Parents and community leaders were also recognized for their continued support to the educational development of the students and the local schools. Some three hundred students along with members of the community participated in the activities.
